So I know I have been a slacker with blogging this summer.  The weekend before last my family and I went to my cousin larry’s graduation party.  And then the next day my friend caleb and I went to boston for the day.  Walked around quite a bit (did the freedom trail) and heard some irish music in a pub that evening, was gorgeous weather and had a really good time :)   Even though I did get a sun burn….totally forgot sun screen!  In case you don’t know, putting iced tea on sun burns relieves them quite a bit (read that online somewhere).  Was burning up before that, but put some on it (the real kind brewed from tea bags, not instant obviously!) and it felt completely better a very short time later!  This past saturday we went hiking and I made sure to remember the sun screen then :)   Went to sleeping beauty mountain, took some pictures from the summit, the lake in the distance is lake george:

Saw several garter snakes (eww!) one of which was eating a frog, looked way too big for it so not sure how successful that ended up being.  Also saw some falcons fly over head when we were at the summit (they live on the cliffs near there) so that was cool!

My grandma’s surgery went well and she is doing better, so we are very thankful for that!

Have an exam this thursday so am looking forward to getting that over with, though not especially happy about likely having to do some studying on july 4th, will try to avoid doing too much that day though…

That’s it for now…

updates and such…

So I know I have been a slacker lately with posting on here.  Started up a new semester, so that has been keeping me a little busy with hw and watching lectures.  Was traveling in Tampa, FL a couple weeks ago (for work, of course) and plan to post a couple pictures I took there when I get a chance this weekend.

My grandma, elinore, has surgery on thursday, so prayers for that would be greatly appreciated.

My sister found out yesterday that she is having a boy, so we are excited about that :)

Recently starting netflixing doctor who (the new one, haven’t seen the original but am curious now).  Only saw the first 3 episodes but am hooked already (doesn’t take me long…), so I plan on watching season 3 when it starts up again in july.  A little out of order because season 2 isn’t available on netflix yet, but for someone who always reads the end of the book first anyways, I figure that won’t bother me much ;)

Guess that’s it for now…hope to post more later…

weekend recap, etc.

May 21st, 2007

So, first off, congratulations again to my cousin Jen, who just got married this past weekend and graduated from med school the weekend before, very happy for her! :)

Also, my friend pj and her husband chris just moved to louisiana this past weekend (assuming all went well with packing and such) so prayers that everything goes well for them as they settle into a new area, new jobs, etc.  Will miss seeing them :(

Had a really good weekend, went to nyc on saturday morning (came back yesterday late morning) to visit my friend siby.  Haven’t seen her in a few years so it was great seeing her again and catching up :)   She lives in harlem, in a nice, quiet area.  Went to chinatown for brunch (may have actually been lunch by the time we got there, but wasn’t paying much attention), then to the metropolitan museum of art.  Really enjoyed the museum, saw the musical instruments, costume exhibit, medieval art, arms and armor, and a temple they had rebuilt at the museum, which was really interesting.  Saw several other sections too while we were lost trying to find the costume exhibit.  Turns out they moved it on us, so that’s why the map wasn’t helping! :)

Then we went back to her place and hung out, had pizza, etc.  Was soooooo nice to have nyc pizza, because one of my major complaints about the albany area is its lack of decent pizza.  Drives me nuts.  Also got a bagel for breakfast yesterday (my other major food-related albany area complaint).

It was drizzling for most of the day saturday, but at least we had already planned indoor activities anyway.  Was annoying because at one point in chinatown I was at least a head taller than everyone else on the sidewalk (for well over a block of walking), which meant that I had to dodge (and usually get hit in the head with) everyone’s umbrellas…very irritating…next time I go there I will remember to bring an umbrella myself so I at least have something to defend myself with ;)   Reminded me, again, why visiting nyc is nice, but living there and dealing with the crowds all the time would drive me nuts.

Got back around 2:30 yesterday and spent the remainder of the day relaxing and gearing up for this week (and trying very hard not to think about the fact that my classes start up again tomorrow…).  Watched extreme makeover home edition, which was interesting cause it was the colonie, ny episode.  So when they went to sears I recognized it as the one at colonie center (pretty easy to narrow down cause i think there are only 2 sears stores in the capital district), recognized some of the roads they drove on too.  Naturally the opening segment (and a few others) was shot in nyc, even though colonie is 3 hours away.  Thus perpetuating the rather irritating misconception that everything ny state-related has to have something to do with nyc, even if it isn’t connected at all.  One of my pet peeves I guess :)

That’s it for now, end of lunch break…

really finished…

May 16th, 2007

So I got my grade for production of inorganic materials today and got an A, what a relief!  Now I know I can balance 2 classes and working full time (even if some time periods in there were very busy and stressful), relief to know that, but a bigger relief to have 3 classes done :)

one down…

May 15th, 2007

So I found out my grade for my water systems class, got an a-, which I was really happy with, especially because they hadn’t graded any of the assignments I handed in all semester, so I had no feedback on how I was doing.  Frustrating when things aren’t being graded, because then you don’t know what to improve on future assignments.

Still waiting on my production of inorganic materials grade, expect it to be posted pretty soon (cause the deadline for grades was supposed to be yesterday…).  Will have to wait and see how it goes, its just difficult to feel like a class is really over when you haven’t gotten the grade yet.  And since my summer class starts a week from today, I would like a little time when I feel like classes are really officially over before they start again…
