So I have arrived in philadelphia. Train ride was nice. It always amazes me how close some of the houses are to the train tracks though, the semi-constant noise would drive me nuts if I lived that close. Nothing too exciting today though, my trip was pretty uneventful (which is good actually, eventful trips don’t usually tend to equal good trips for me). Though when I was in the train station in philadelphia, I did wonder if I would be stuck on the elevator forever. Me and two other women got on the elevator that brings you up to the station from the terminals and it would go up, the doors wouldn’t open, and then we would be sent back down to the terminals again. (and yes, we did press the button for the correct floor). Obviously since I got to the hotel ok, we did eventually get to the correct floor but it seemed to take a while. We were so excited when the door opened and we saw something other than the trains lined up/boarding. Then when I got to my hotel, the woman in front of me in line was one of the women from the elevator. If I had only known that maybe we could have shared a cab
Speaking of cabs, have you ever been in one that is new? Logically every taxi must have been new at one point…but I have never been in one that IS new so I wonder if they age taxis before putting them into service (kind of like those jeans you can buy that have the look of being worn in before you get them?)…maybe that’s it, they purposely make them all look crappy so that no one can be jealous of another person for getting a new taxi when they have an old crappy looking one. If that’s not what happens, then where are the new taxis sent? And why aren’t they ever sent to where I am?
I would have rented a car only I didn’t really feel like trying to navigate my way around the city this week when I really only need to be in the hotel.
Its interesting (to me at least, you can disagree I suppose), I have been on business trips to several cities over the past few years and this is the only hotel I have been in where you can’t use the elevators without scanning your room key once you are inside. I guess its for security purposes which kind of makes sense, but I have never been to a hotel where they do that. Hmmm…can’t people just sneak on the elevator with other people who have keys though and avoid having to scan at all though? Not sure how that works. I guess any kind of elevator-related security system is only going to be so effective I suppose.
The hotel I am in is right on the delaware river, but since the conference I am here for got the discounted rate, my room obviously doesn’t face that way. But my view of the city includes a really nice view of the sunset too (and the sun was actually out today so that actually mattered too
), so I can’t really complain…I have definitely had worse views from my hotel room window
I think the best view I have had in a hotel room that I can remember though was in albuquerque actually…could see the mountains off in the distance (well, actually, the view in antigua was nice too but that was personal travel, not business). And the mountains in albuquerque are very different than the ones in new york….the color of the ones in albuquerque were this tan color that you don’t get in ny (given the fact that we don’t have a desert out here anywhere)….and the sunset over the mountains there was really pretty.
I try to appreciate things like that when I am on a business trip cause I don’t usually have much time to see much else
