pirates 2 review…

July 8th, 2006

So I went to see pirates of the caribbean 2 last night…it was ok, but I definitely liked the first one better.  The 2nd one just felt too long (2.5 hrs), with not enough plot.  All the little girls who just went to see johnny depp seemed happy about it (they were giggling behind me every time he came on the screen), but I’m not a huge johnny depp fan (I like him in that movie, but I definitely wouldn’t choose to see something cause he is in it).  I hope they make some semblance of sense out of keira knightley’s character in the next movie though, cause right now she isn’t a very consistent character (one second she is supposed to be strong, the next she is a whiney little wuss, one second she is in love with orlando bloom’s character, the next she is making out with johnny depp), she was even more annoying than usual in this one (she was ok in the 1st, still think they could have gotten someone better).

I know they are making a 3rd movie and all so this is the bridge between the 1st and 3rd, but the amount of actual plot in the movie didn’t justify the length. There are other examples of trilogies that actually did a good job of movie #2, like star wars (the originals…the new ones don’t count), out of that series empire strikes back is actually my favorite…and lord of the rings, I loved the two towers.  But then there are movies like pirates and the matrix, where movie #2 was clearly only made to make more money by having 3 movies released instead of 2….cause the actual plot contained in #2 (all 15 minutes of it…way too much pointless fighting if you ask me) could have been combined with movie #3.  Am looking forward to seeing #3 though…have to see how they wrap it up.

Don’t get me wrong, was glad I saw it cause its really a movie that is better in the theater, but I just don’t like it when movies don’t have as much plot as I had hoped they would.  I recommend seeing it if you really like action/fighting movies…but I do not recommend seeing it without seeing #1 first, cause you will probably be pretty lost (i got a little confused a couple times and realized I forgot some of #1, and I have seen it several times and actually own it).

It was nice to go with my family (went with my parents, gill and jim), my sister seemed to really like it.

first time for everything…

So I actually returned a pair of shoes today, aren’t you proud?  I never return stuff, even when I get something home and realize it was a complete mistake, it just ends up at the back of my closet.  But I actually decided to return a pair of shoes for the first time ever, they were weird shoes, I tried one on at the store and it was comfortable, but when I got home the other shoe (the one I hadn’t tried on) was really uncomfortable…it felt like how monica described the boots she wore on friends, like the person who made the shoes “hates feet.”  But it was weird that the two shoes fit so differently, that will teach me to be impatient when I am shopping and choose to not try on both…I will try to mend my ways next time.  But I did actually return them, so its baby steps to being a better shopper I guess :)
