what an odd place…
Don’t get me wrong, i like where I work, but some days I am struck by how odd some of the people around me are…assume that is true of everywhere though (but I generally find that odd-ness often increases in direct proportion to the # of people around you with phds…).
This thought came to me today because I was leaving work and a guy was walking slowly backwards through the parking lot. Wasn’t talking to anyone or doing anything in particular that seemed to require such an action. He was holding his hat on his head (wasn’t particularly windy at the time) and had to keep turning his head to look behind him and make sure that he didn’t bump into anything. Seemed like a dumb thing to do in a parking lot where cars routinely drive way faster than they should and very rarely pay attention to their surroundings. From my point of view though, the guy walking backwards isn’t even the particularly odd part of the story…the odd thing was that no one else seemed to notice it. A little scary if that is considered normal by the people around you
Oh well, at least it put a smile on my face at the end of a long day of work
