crime and punishment, etc…
So I finished crime and punishment the other day, I had only had about 80 pages left for a while but just never had the time/energy to devote to it with everything else going on. But now that we are at the time of year where we are rapidly losing daylight, I need something to occupy myself with while I do my light therapy so I figured it’s a good time to spend reading books I actually enjoy (i.e. not textbooks).
I enjoyed the book…even though I don’t actually like raskolnikov (main character) until somewhere in the last few paragraphs. It is an interesting story, with several interesting characters. So, next on my list in terms of russian classics is brothers karamazov, though not sure when I will get around to it.
This morning I started reading david copperfield, which I have owned for years and never gotten around to reading. Figured I may as well give it a try now. Have to say it is a huge relief to read anything where I know the words ‘differential equation’ won’t come up anywhere
Yesterday I watched shakespeare’s as you like it (a bbc version that was on pbs years ago that I netflixed), had never gotten around to reading the play but thought it was pretty good. As usual for shakespeare, in my opinion, I found many of the side characters (especially jacques) more interesting than the main characters. I also thought the ending was a little odd, though it ended happily obviously (since it’s a comedy and all). Twelfth night is still my favorite of his comedies.
Finished my midterm for one class last week, have another coming up next week, and am traveling to tampa, fl for a 1 day meeting this week. So, in other words, I am very busy and very tired…and very much looking forward to the end of this semester! But I am planning to decorate my apartment for christmas with my mom this friday evening, am looking forward to my apartment looking a little more cheerful than it has of late.
